She loves muggle music, her best friend is a muggleborn, and for a long time she wanted to marry George Harrison. Why would she agree with Voldemort? Besides, opposing Voldemort runs in the family. Physical description: Tall, thin, and fairly strong, but with little need for physical strength - she is attractive, but hard-featured, and just a look will do the job most of the time. Hestia has black hair, bluish-green eyes, and a nose that just barely avoids beakiness. Her entire face changes when she laughs or smiles, but she doesn't often because she thinks it makes her look stupid (particularly around said nose, which she hates). She has pale skin which she occasionally tries to make more colorful with blush. She is obsessed with eyebrows, both her own and others. She sometimes finds it difficult to speak to people with poorly groomed eyebrows because they're constantly distracting her. 2. She had a minor crush on Professor Flitwick during her fourth year. 3. She wants to be a writer, and only began editing because she doesn't trust anyone else to edit her work properly. 4. She is mildly addicted to game shows (or at least, she tells herself, making fun of game shows), and chose to live in a muggle area partly so she could watch them (getting a television to work in wizarding areas is just too much trouble). 5. She can't get into the proper writing mindset unless she's wearing a specific pair of hideous, sparkly, rhinestone-covered earrings. Personality: Pleasant once you get to know her, but very intimidating for those who don't. Hestia knows she's smart, and does not condone stupidity in herself or others. Her confidence is borderline arrogant and her sense of humor quite dry, and she detests soppiness. She has very high standards for writing, and wastes no time in saying so when a manuscript does not meet them. She is spoken of in hushed and reverent tones wherever hopeful young writers meet, just in case she might hear them. Being head editor at one of the most successful wizarding publishing companies can have that effect. While she is very sure of herself when it comes to her mind, she is less confident about her body. She sees her coloring as too stark, her features as too harsh, her figure as too bony. Her nose particularly bothers her, and she is quite sensitive about it. However, she places more importance on intelligence than on attractiveness, so she tries not to let it bother her too much. There are few people who know her well, as she does not make friends easily. She is more inclined to talk about the things she dislikes or disapproves of, and one might be acquainted with her for years without knowing what her interests are. Strengths: She has a good eye for detail, and when it comes to the written word, her opinion is usually right. She is committed to her family, especially after what happened to her father and younger sister, and never fails to attend a birthday celebration or send a present. She is also extremely punctual. Weaknesses: While Hestia loves to sing, she can't carry a tune. Worse yet, she doesn't realize it, as no one has had the guts to tell her. She is an obsessive perfectionist when it comes to writing, especially her own. Boggart (greatest fear): Bloody teeth. She has recurring nightmares about her teeth falling out. Mirror of Erised (greatest desire): A best-selling (and critically acclaimed) novel with her name on it. Family history: Hestia's father, Douglas, came from one of several distantly related Jones families in wizarding Britain. He was sorted into Gryffindor when he attended Hogwarts, and excelled in Transfiguration and Muggle Studies. The latter is where he met Hestia's mother, a charming young Ravenclaw named Anastasia Ollerton. They began dating exclusively their sixth year, and got married immediately after school - in part because Anastasia was already pregnant with Hestia's elder brother, Hector. They tried six years to have another child, finally succeeding with Hestia, and had another baby girl, Hera, two years later. Douglas, though not part of the original Order of the Phoenix, was a strong wizard and an outspoken critic of bloodist rhetoric. He and his family were threatened numerous times, and shortly before Voldemort's defeat, Douglas and Hera, who was only fifteen, were killed by Death Eaters while the rest of the family was away visiting friends. Hector had his own family (including his young daughter, Megan), to protect, and chose to lie low instead of following in his father's footsteps. Hestia took it upon herself to uphold the tradition in his place - or would have. If she had been old enough, she would have joined the Order immediately, but she had one more year left at Hogwarts, and Harry Potter's defeat of Voldemort only months later left her with no way and no reason to prove herself. Personal history: Hestia started Hogwarts in 1974 and was sorted into Ravenclaw in about two seconds flat. Having come from a family interested in muggles, nobody was surprised when she herself became fascinated by muggle culture. She did reasonably well in all her classes, but Muggle Studies was her passion and her best subject. Ancient Runes was the runner-up, and that was where she came to know Elizabeth Gregson, a muggleborn witch who soon became her best friend. From Lizzie she learned of the Beatles (unfortunately too late to attend any concerts, although they snuck out to see a few tribute bands), Elvis (who she instantly loathed, much to Lizzie's amusement), and a great many other pop culture things the textbooks didn't cover. She was always proud of her father for standing up for muggleborn and halfblood rights, and was devastated when he and her younger sister (who had looked up to her and who she had largely ignored) were killed during the holidays while she was visiting Lizzie. She was determined to follow in her father's footsteps, but Voldemort's defeat came only months later, during her last year at Hogwarts, and made the whole thing rather moot. She finished her schooling and went into editing at a wizarding publishing company, and life went on as normal until Voldemort's return. Then she was approached to join the Order by her friend Emmeline Vance, who knew her family's history, and she jumped at the chance to prove herself. Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual. Dating: No one. She's far too busy. Turn-ons: Intelligence, musical talent, ability to string together an intelligible sentence without help, excellent eyebrows, being George Harrison.
